TWO men who helped to subject an Oldham taxi-driver to a terrifying ordeal have been convicted of robbery.
A trial jury at Manchester Crown Court took less than an hour to reach unanimous verdicts on 21-year old Liam Fairfoull and 22-year old Zeshan Akram.
The jury had heard how the pair, with an unnamed third man, called for a cab from Milne Street, Werneth to Greenacres in March 2014.
Part way through the journey driver Mujibur Rahman was told to stop and had what he thought to be a knife pressed against his neck. His passengers aggressively demanded his cash, phone and keys.
Fairfoull and Akram blamed the third man for the robbery and claimed they hadn’t been involved, but CCTV showed them walking togethr some time later and the driver’s money pouch was found in a search of Akram’s house
Fairfoull was accused in court of making up a story in a bid to escape punishment and make matters look worse for his co-accused. Akram told police he believed the third man had been a friend of Fairfoull.
Fairfoull of Striding Edge Walk, Higginshaw, Oldham, and Akram of Copster Hill Road, Oldham will be sentenced next month.
