Chemical drama

A ROAD in Shaw was locked down yesterday after police discovered dangerously-stored chemicals at a tyre company.

The officers had raided Crompton Tyres in Milnrow Road as part of a crackdown on modern slavery.

As well as dangrously-stored cleaning fluids, police found faulty wiring close to the chemicals.

Cars, buses and other vehicles were diverted down Smallbrook Road and away from the area as the chemicals were cleared from the building and the wiring made safe.

Officers executed a warrant as part of Greater Manchester’s Programme Challenger – a crackdown on modern slavery in the region. The operation has made 24 arrests and rescued seven vulnerable people in the last three days. The week of action ends tomorrow.

Oldham police have visited Crompton Tyres, the Red Rose Filling Station in Royton and Chadderton Tyres and Hand Car Wash in Hollinwood. No arrests were made at any of these premises.
