A STELLAR line up of page, stage and screen stars are coming to Oldham to celebrate Bookmark Weekend on Friday and Saturday,.
Bookmark Weekend is an offshoot of the Bookmark Festival every spring, and part of the council’s Live@theLibrary initiative.
On Saturday Oldham writer Kirsty Greenwood will be signing books and discussing her novels “Yours Truly” and “The Vintage Guide to Love and Romance” from 2-3.30pm. Both sessions are free and there is no need to book.
Roald Dahl fans will be delighted as Anthony Pedley performs his unique, one-man version of classic tale “The BFG” on both days.
Families can also enjoy an early spine-tingling treat before Hallowe’en with the screening of “The Witches” in the library’s new performance space on the Saturday evening.
On the Friday, award-winning children’s author Alan Gibbons will talk about his work at Oldham Children’s Library.
Later that day, the author of “The Year of Reading Dangerously”, Andy Miller, will guide visitors through his 10-step programme to cure them of their bad reading habits.
Novelist Louis de Bernieres, author of world bestseller “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”, will talk about his new book “The Dust that Falls from Dreams”, at the Millgate Arts Centre in Delph on Saturday.
The same day, graphic novel writer and illustrator Brian Gorman will present his work at Oldham Library.
Visitors can also pop into the new second-hand shop, Bookmark-It, in Albion Street, which sells pre-loved library books with regular creative activities for all the family.
Manchester actor and writer, Anthony Bowers-Smith, will read children’s favourite “Bernard The Vampire Cat” from 10.30am-noon at the shop on the Saturday.
Tickets for all Bookmark Weekend events, unless otherwise stated, are £5 (£4 library members) from www.oldham.gov.uk/liveatthelibrary. All events take place at Oldham Library, unless otherwise stated.
