Drug dens nightmare

DRUG dealers and users are blighting the lives of residents in an Oldham town centre block of flats.

One resident is considering moving out of Julian House in Henshaw Street to get away from the problems, which led last month to a closure order on a flat occupied by two of Oldham’s top 10 offenders.

Residents say the action hasn’t been a deterrent and that up to six more flats are being used to peddle drugs. One 16-year owner said: “We’ve got real problems with drugs around here. Cameras were set up to help.

One of the flats has people jumping in and out of windows to get their drugs, and people are outside fighting and making noise. It’s horrible to live with. I’m debating selling up.

“There has to be at least six flats being used to sell drugs and there are more in Hadrian House along the road. It’s not very nice to live with.

Police have confirmed that work to secure further orders continues. Inspector Mark Davis said: “I would encourage people to pass information and concerns to police so we can make sure they are not blighted by this type of crime and anti-social behaviour.

“People who spread misery in our neighbourhoods should beware that this behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Prior to the closure order on the flat, residents reported seeing people queuing outside “like a supermarket” at all hours of the day. The closure order has now been lifted, to allow it to be rented out again.
