100-up! Blood donors (l-r) William Whitehead (65), Linda Fitzpatrick (67), and Peter Smithies (66) have all made over 100 blood donations
Oldham blood donors have been recognised by NHS Blood and Transplant for their loyalty and commitment.
William Whitehead (65), Linda Fitzpatrick (67) and Peter Smithies (66) have each made more than 100 blood donations and were honoured at a ceremony at Gorton Monastery.
The 100-pinters were among 35 donors from Greater Manchester who received the award. Collectively the group has made 3,900 donations.
Each blood donation can save the lives of up to three people and if a donor has given blood 100 times, they have potentially helped to save or improve the life of up to 300 patients.
Out of the four per cent of the eligible population who give blood, only one per cent reaches the 100 donation milestone.
As long as you are fit and healthy, weigh over seven stone 12 lbs (50kg) and are aged 17-66 (up to 70 for existing donors) you should be able to give blood. Visit www.blood.co.uk for details.
