Bus stop rape bid: man, 19, arrested

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape following an incident in Oldham town centre.
Shortly before 10.50pm on Sunday, September 27, a 45-year-old woman was sitting at a bus stop in Middleton Road when she was approached by a man.
The man engaged her in conversation before he assaulted her and attempted to rape her.
A 19-year-old man was arrested in Oldham on Friday morning on suspicion of attempted rape and has been bailed until October 30.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to what is believed to be an isolated incident.
Det Insp Mark McDowall said: “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
“This happened on a busy street at a busy time and we believe a number of potential witnesses will have driven past at the time of the attack and may have seen something.
“The incident has understandably left the victim very distressed and specially-trained officers are continuing to provide her with support.”
