Mum’s Maid for success

Date published: 06 October 2015

A FAILSWORTH mum is cleaning up with her fledgling business which is taking on new staff to meet growing demand.

Claire McLauchlin-Whitehead (32) launched cleaning firm Mum’s Maid a month ago for busy mums struggling to balance hectic work schedules with maintaining the family home.

When the mum-of-two, who is expecting her third child on Christmas Day, went looking for a tailored cleaning service designed to meet her specific needs, her search proved fruitless.

So the entrepreneurial Claire, whose husband runs Whitehead Timber in Coal Pit Lane, decided to go it alone.

Claire said: “Nowadays, women can often earn more than their husbands and be the breadwinners and it can be difficult with a house and children.

“We’re geared up to alleviate the pressure on working mums. Our ethos is to change the perception of women having a cleaner.

“We offer women a really affordable service. You spend all day at work and the free time you get you want to spend with your family.

“My husband is very, very busy with his own business and he’s not able to contribute to the house work and probably never would.

“So I said let’s get some help, but I couldn’t find anything. That’s how it all started.

“Some people have different needs when it comes to cleaning so we aim to offer them what they want. I go along with them for the first time and make sure it’s up to standard.

“It’s gone really well we’ve already picked up a number of clients and we’ve got even more strong enquiries that I just can’t take on without new staff.

“We currently work mainly in Chadderton and Failsworth at the moment but with more staff we want to spread across the borough.”
