BACK in town: store manager Helen Waterworth
TJ Hughes is back in Oldham after a four-year hiatus — and it’s bigger and better than ever.
The superstore, which closed in 2011 with the loss of 80 jobs, reopened in its original Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre spot this morning after a £2 million refurbishment.
Oldham Mayor, Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman and Mayoress Yasmin Toor cut the ribbon to officially welcome TJs back to town.
The Oldham branch employs 50 full and part-time staff and is the chain’s 15th store, the first of three to open over the next three weeks. Another 60 sites have been identified for the next five years.
Oldham store manager Helen Waterworth said: “Our staff are absolutely delighted to be back in Oldham and are looking forward to seeing their hard work pay off as we welcome the town’s savviest shoppers.”
The 35,000ft store, which will stock big-name brands such as Michael Kors, Paul Smith, Yves Saint Laurent, Babyliss, Calvin Klein, Burberry, Sony, Zanussi, Adidas, Clinique, L’Oréal, Chanel and Elizabeth Arden, will also have a cafe.
