THE LOCAL RSPCA will eventually make this building its new home
OLDHAM’S RSPCA branch is appealing for help to raise up to £40,000 to build a new home.
The centre, which serves Oldham and Bury, has temporarily moved from Rhodes Bank to Retiro Street until a new centre at the former Strinesdale Visitor Centre in Holgate Street is completed. The charity sold its Mumps site to Oldham Council as part of the Princes Gate development.
There are no animals at Retiro Street and physical viewing of would-be pets is by appointment only. Staff are now raising money to complete work at the new centre, which will be significantly bigger than the previous site and allow more animals to be taken in.
Officials have applied for a competitive grant to pay for solar panels at the Strinesdale Centre, which will save the group thousands of pounds a year.
To vote visit www.mandsenergyfund.com/project/28390. Voting ends at the end of September.
Deputy animal centre manager Lisa Walsh said: “If we win this fund it will save us approximately £8,000 per year.”
Anyone who would like to make a direct donation to the centre should call 0161-624 4725 or text MOVE02 to 70070.
