ENGINEERING excellence . . . Dominic (left) receives his ICE award
A TALENTED Oldham student has scooped a raft of industry awards - including an honour for engineering excellence.
Dominic Walker (23), who recently graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in structural engineering and architecture, received the annual Institution of Civil Engineers Student Prize for engineering. The honour is given to the undergraduate judged to have performed best in the last two years of his civil engineering course and includes a £250 prize.
Dominic also won the university’s Stephen Welsh Prize in Architectural Draughtsmanship and was nominated for the Royal Institute of British Architects President’s Medals Student Awards, based on talent in engineering design, impressive coursework and strong performance in examinations.
Dominic is now working for award-winning national architectural practice Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
He said: “I am honoured to have won such a prestigious award, which came as a shock. I’ve long had an interest in engineering and architecture - my father is an aerospace engineer and my tutors at the university were fantastic and supportive.”
Penny Marshall, ICE Yorkshire and Humber’s director, said: “The ICE Student Prize recognises engineering talent and excellence. Dominic has a strong work ethic and is a very talented young man.”
