Three flats and shop scheme for former social club
A DERELICT former social club in Werneth is to be converted into a shop and three flats.
Planning officers had initially recommended refusal of proposals to the Hartford Social Club in Alfred Street, which has been empty for several years.
But councillors believed the plan could benefit the area. The shop will open from 9am-9pm Monday to Friday and until 6pm at weekends and bank holidays.
Councillor Steven Bashforth said: “I personally feel this is quite a sustainable place for houses.”
The proposal was unanimously approved, subject to conditions to be agreed at a later date.
