Flashback . . . last year’s Party in the Park
DELPH’S Party in the Park returns with its “best event yet” for its 10th anniversary.
The event is at Delph Cricket Club in Huddersfield Road on Saturday from 3pm.
One of the organisers, Phil Beckwith, said: “It is a big task for villagers like us in Delph to put on an event like this. It all started to raise money for Christmas celebrations in the village, but we have carried on and it has grown bigger and bigger. Now it’s a great annual event.
“Party in the Park is run by all the villagers and others from across Saddleworth and this year we have got a great show, the best yet.”
Acts include tributes to One Direction and Take That as well as Sally Mitchell, Mike Sweeney and the Thunderbirds, the Fantastic and Delph Band. The event will end with the proms finale with Delph Band, accompanied by a firework display.
Money for the Wake Up Delph organisation — which runs events for the village — will be collected throughout. Organisers are giving a teenager’s musical talents a chance for a local hospice. Kieran McMahon raised £1,892 performing 24 gigs in a non-stop 24-hour dash across pubs, clubs and private houses earlier this year. He hopes to pushs over the £2,000 mark with a slot at the show.
