OLDHAM’S historic Lyceum theatre is undergoing a full auditorium refurbishment.
The Lyceum has been a feature of the town centre for nearly 90 years, and has operated from its current basement location in the Union Street building since 1938.
Following years of cost cutting, the venue is soon to acquire new seats and redecoration.
After finishing its 2014/15 season with a near sell-out production, the old seats were ripped out of the intimate, 100-capacity venue to make way for a more comfortable audience experience.
The refurbishment is the culmination of years of hard work for the management team and volunteers.
Chair of the management team, Mark Higginbottom, said: “We decided several years ago we needed new seating. We are delighted that this year we have covered the cost.”
