Teacher’s life ban over vile rants

AN OLDHAM teacher has been banned from UK classrooms for life after posting foul-mouthed racist rants on social networking site Twitter.

Nargs Bibi (32) was banned at a disciplinary panel bearing after posting messages such as: “Beheading deserved,” “well done IS... don’t blow the shrines up, kill kafir for wat they’ve done”, and “**** ur teaching job.”

Bibi was suspended twice in 2010 from Knowsley Junior School in Springhead and dismissed in December that year, after being found guilty of professional misconduct for shouting and arguing with staff at the school she had joined newly-qualified in 2007.

The allegations of professional misconduct happened after she returned from maternity leave in 2010.

In 2012 a professional conduct panel of the Teaching Agency concluded she acted in an “inappropriate and unprofessional” way toward colleagues, but decided not to ban her from the classroom. After the offensive tweets were found, new disciplinary action was begun.

Despite the “malicious and highly offensive” nature of Bibi’s tweets, the panel recommended she could apply to have the ban lifted after five years.

But overriding the panel’s recommendation and imposing a life ban on behalf of Education Secretary National College of Teaching and Leadership deputy director, Alan Meyrick, said: “I do not believe the panel has placed sufficient weight on the serious and extreme nature of the comments, and has given rather too much weight to the mitigation. The prohibition order should have no provision for review.”

Bibi admitted the allegations but claimed poor mental health at the time had coloured her comments.

The panel found her Twitter posts undermined fundamental British values, demonstrated intolerance to other beliefs and promoted political and religious extremism.

Bibi has the right to appeal to the High Court.
