STUNNED residents on a Limeside street sprang into action when a 19-month-old boy fell from a moving car.
Early reports suggested the child was six, but police have since confirmed he was a toddler.
The drama unfolded in Farm Road. Resident Robert McManus said: “I saw the car speeding through the cul-de-sac. It must have been doing about 40 to 50mph and as it went round the corner the back door flew open and I saw a baby fly out before the car sped off.
“I honestly thought the baby was dead because he wasn’t moving or making a noise. Other people came out and I picked the baby up.
“He was covered in blood but all of a sudden he started screaming so a woman tried to clean him up a bit. I was covered in the baby’s blood, it was awful.
“We were all in shock that he didn’t have worse injuries. I can’t believe he wasn’t in a car seat and didn’t have a seatbelt on.
“People called an ambulance but before it arrived the car - a black Volvo - came back and his parents took the baby and drove off.”
The tot was taken to Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital with minor injuries and kept in overnight for observation. Police are now investigating the incident, which happened at around 4.30pm on Tuesday. Witnesses are asked to call 0161 856 8473.
