Ambulance depot raid youth’s joyride crash

A TEENAGER who broke into an ambulance depot in Shaw three times and stole a life-saving defibrillator then stole a car for a joyride before crashing it into a Jaguar.

The 16 year old from Werneth pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary and one of theft before

Oldham magistrates. Magistrates sentenced him to a 12-month referral order and he was ordered to pay £150 compensation and £100 in costs.

The teenager and a friend — whose name he didn’t reveal — first broke into the Moor Street depot on February 14, but took nothing. They returned the following night and stole a defibrillator worth £12,000 and a paramedic’s uniform.

The police were contacted a few days later when the boy’s mother found the uniform in his room.

He told police he needed money and thought he could sell the items on eBay.

When bailed he broke into the station again with a different friend. After forcing their way in they took the keys to a Ford Fiesta owned by one of the ambulance staff and drove off, crashing into a parked Jaguar in Coniston Drive, Stalybridge and doing £4,000 worth of damage to the Jaguar and £2,000 worth to the Ford.

Defending, Graham Whittingham explained the youngster had a clean record and autism and mental health issues.
