STUDENT Kimberley Jayne has won a top award for making a supersized version of Lego.
The 23 year old, from Mossley, is studying brand promotion and business at the University of Central Lancashire and created the massive building blocks from water bottles.
The idea — which teaches children about recycling — won the Ethical Award at this year’s Graduate Fashion week in London.
The former Mossley Hollins High School and Manchester College pupil explained: “It’s demonstrating the concept of recycling to young children, showing them more visually that you can use materials to build other things.”
Kimberley was inspired by people in Third World countries who use plastic bottles in different ways from necessity.
She also created an app that suggests things that can be made out of plastic bottles, how many bottles are needed and basic construction details.
Kimberley said bottled water giant Volvic is interested in the idea. “I’m hoping something will come from that,” she said.
