Confusion over car park bays

NOT marked bays: cars park at the perimeter of Westway car park
MOTORISTS parking near Shaw Market are being advised to choose their spot carefully.
Lib-Dem leader and Shaw ward councillor Howard Sykes says parking wardens are “handing out tickets like confetti” at the edge of Westway car park, where there are no marked bays.
Councillor Sykes met council officers six months ago to highlight the problem, asking for a halt on tickets until the matter was resolved. But he says nothing has been done.
A sign in the car park says any vehicle not parked within a marked bay will be given a ticket.
While there are no bays painted around the car park perimeter, Councillor Sykes says motorists park responsibly and don’t cause problems.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, cabinet member for housing, planning and transport, said: “We asked our parking contractors to see if these areas could be made into spaces. The areas were too small to accommodate bays and we were advised any changes could cause access issues. Our parking team will look into this matter further.”
