College and schools in Oscars final

OLDHAM College and two of the borough’s schools are finalists at the region’s skills Oscars.
Failsworth School and Oasis Academy Oldham, in Hollins, have been shortlisted for the School of the Year title at the Skills for Business Awards.
Oldham College is a finalist in the Learning Provider of the Year category at the annual event, which celebrates the contribution skills and learning make to businesses across Greater Manchester.
Mantra learning of Greengate, Middleton is also shortlisted in several categories.
Ravy Nsenga (21), an engineering apprenticeship with Oldham Training Centre and the Manchester-based PBSI Group, is a finalist in the Higher Apprentice of the Year section.
Oldham College deputy principal Debra Woodruff, said: “We are proud to be shortlisted for this award, which is an important way of acknowledging the college’s contribution to businesses workforce development in the region.”
Oasis Academy Oldham was nominated for its work experience programme for pupils, and Failsworth School for its careers advice and support for pupils to take up apprenticeships.
Failsworth was also a finalist last year and assistant head teacher Louise Rees said: “We are proud of the commitment that we place on careers information advice and guidance.”
The winners will be announced on July 1.
