THE Beswicks’ burned-out Citroen.
A Chadderton couple had a dramatic escape after their saloon car burst into flames yesterday.
Graham and Alison Beswick, were driving from Ashton to Uppermill when near Greenfield station smoke began seeping from under the bonnet of their Citroen.
Mr Beswick (59), said: “Other drivers began sounding their horns as a warning. Then the smoke started billowing out.
“Alison got out of the car and I was trying to open the bonnet but saw flames underneath. We called the emergency services.
“It was quite scary,” he admitted.”The car is completely burned out.”
Alison, a teacher at Christ Church School in Chadderton said: “It’s lucky we managed to stop and get out. Things could have been a lot worse.”
Firemen said the blaze seemed to have been caused by a mechanic fault. The road was closed for 45 minutes while council workers cleared oil and melted debris from the road.
