One to one support success sees scheme extended
Date published: 16 June 2015
ONE-TO-ONE cancer support will be available to all Oldham residents thanks to the extension of a dedicated health service.
The Oldham Macmillan 1-1 Support service helps to ensure people living beyond cancer receive the care and information they need.
The team of experienced health care professionals helps people to understand their condition, treatment and care to ensure they have the best quality of life possible.
The Oldham service started in April 2013 as a two-year pilot project funded by Macmillan Cancer Support and available through 10 GP practices in the borough.
The success of the pilot has led to its extension for another 12 months to anyone living in the borough or registered with an Oldham GP.
Helen Wrench, clinical service lead from Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: “When we hear from patients about how Macmillan 1-1 Support has helped them through a very difficult stage of their lives, it is clear just how valuable the service is.”
Oldham-dwelling people affected by cancer or registered with an Oldham GP can get in touch with the team by email: oldham.macmillansupport@nhs.net.
