A JET flew over Oldham in memory of a local serviceman at his full military funeral.

Warrant Officer Scott Creighton (38), a father of two young boys, was laid to rest at a packed service in Oldham Parish Church on Friday.

The flypast was by a Sentinel jet. Mr Creighton died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism in Lincoln County Hospital in May, after falling ill a few weeks before.

Veterans and serving personnel lined the path as his coffin arrived at church in a hearse carrying flowers spelling out “Hero”.

His wife, vicki, and children, Callum (8) and Jaydon (6), looked on as shots saluted their husband and father, who grew up in Oldham and went to Kaskenmoor School and Oldham College before working at Morrisons in Chadderton.

WO Creighton was later named best recruit in basic training and worked through the Army’s ranks within the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers.

Always a high flyer, he was a Warrant Officer Class 2 Artificer Quarter Master Sergeant (WO2 AQMS).

WO Creighton served with The Household Cavalry Regiment, Windsor; The Light Dragoons, Norfolk; DE&S Bristol; 39 Regiment Royal Artillery, Newcastle; and DE&S at RAF Waddington, Lincoln, as well as tours in Bosnia and Iraq. He was awarded a commendation for his work.
