RAIN didn’t stop play at Alexandra Park as thousands of people enjoyed Oldham Carnival.
An eclectic line-up of musicians, fairground rides, huge inflatable slides, games, drama performances, dancing shows and gymnastic displays entertained the crowds.
The Rootz Stage boasted its best-ever line-up, with headline act Oldham Tinkers stealing the show.
Peter Sampson, who was at the carnival with his wife and friends, said: “I love the Oldham Tinkers and when I heard they were on the bill I knew I had to come. We were worried about the rain but it’s stayed off and everyone has been in great spirits. To say it’s free, the carnival is a fantastic event. I used to go every year but I’ve not been for a while. If next year’s line-up is as good as this, I’ll definitely be back.”
The carnival played host to the United Kingdom Dance Troupe Championship and dancers competed for prizes near the main stage all day.
A wide selection of food was available to keep hunger pangs at bay.
