Excellence in the line of duty

AWARDS recognising the success of officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Oldham Division were handed out at its annual presentation ceremony.
Officers were commended for bravery and service at the Oldham Divisional Excellence awards hosted by Chief Supt Caroline Ball at the Victoria Hotel, Chadderton. Twelve categories including leadership, investigator of the year, employee of the year, team and lifetime achievement.
The Alison Armitage Trophy was awarded to PC Dean Thompson, PC Gareth Redford and PC Iain Glasgow-Lattibeaudiere for saving a suicidal man from rail tracks seconds before a train passed.
The award is given in memory of PC Alison Armitage, who was killed on duty in March 2001, and is presented to an officer who performs a “meritorious act of courage”.
The Leadership Award, sponsored by the Oldham Evening Chronicle, went to Inspector Paul Walker for leading the Organised Crime Unit to secure convictions for organised gang members.
Inspector Alan Humphries won the Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by the Stoller Charitable Trust, for 30 years of dedicated service and improving the lives of the communities as the Central Neighbourhood prior to his retirement.
