The footpath is blocked on Yorkshire Street due to work by shopfitters
COUNCIL officers were forced to intervene when construction work in Yorkshire Street forced pedestrians into the road.
Work is currently under way to transform an empty unit in Oldham town centre into a Jack’s Smokehouse restaurant, and builders had blocked off the entire pavement.
There is also renovation work taking place at shops adjacent to the new restaurant, supported by Oldham Council as part of the Independent Quarter initiative.
A council spokesperson said: “When we learned that there were concerns about pedestrian safety, officers from the Traffic Section visited the site to offer advice and guidance to the contractors.
“As a result, additional control measures are now being introduced to enable the safe passage of pedestrians.”
