THE grieving widow of an Oldham serviceman has paid tribute to her “amazing and positive” husband ahead of his full military funeral tomorrow.

Warrant Officer Scott Creighton (38), a father of two young boys, died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism in Lincoln County Hospital on May 20 after falling ill a few weeks before. His funeral will be at Oldham Parish Church at 1pm.

He grew up in Oldham, attending Kaskenmoor School, Failsworth, and Oldham College before starting work at Morrisons in Chadderton.

Scott was named best recruit in basic training and worked through the Army’s ranks within the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME).

Always a high flyer, Scott was a Warrant Officer Class 2 Artificer Quarter Master Sergeant (WO2 AQMS) and was aiming for bigger, more challenging jobs.

Scott served with The Household Cavalry Regiment, Windsor; The Light Dragoons, Norfolk; DE&S Bristol; 39 Regiment Royal Artillery, Newcastle; and DE&S at RAF Waddington, Lincoln, as well as touring Bosnia once and Iraq twice.

He was awarded a commendation for his work ensuring thousands of dismounted soldiers were properly equipped with the equipment they needed.

Scott worked extremely hard helping people through his charity work.

He always looking to further himself and seeking out opportunities and was studying hard for his MSc in programme management at Cranfield University. Wife of 13 years Vicki said: “Scott was crazy and always looking for the next mental and physical challenge, running, climbing cycling and entering crazy muddy events.

“He was the geekiest, most intelligent, beautiful man ever who was good at absolutely everything, except golf and drill!

“He would give anybody his last penny or the clothes off his back and loved all his friends and family unconditionally.

“Scott has done an amazing job of giving our boys the tools they need to grow into perfect young men just like their dad.

“Thirteen years of marriage proved unlucky for me but I still am the luckiest girl alive because you can’t get better than Scott, I still have butterflies when I think of you. Thank-you Scott for choosing me.

“Rest in peace babe I know you are still with me — keep visiting, keep watching because we’re going to do you proud.

“I love you so much Scott, my world, my everything — from me and the boys we love you from the top of our heads to the tip of our toe jam.”

Scott leaves behind two children, Callum (8) and Jaydon (6).

Funeral flowers are welcome or donations if desired to Scotty’s Little Soldiers or Forces Children’s Trust.
