Fancy a carer career chaps?

AN OLDHAM care home is hoping to address the shortage of carers across the country through a new recruitment campaign.
As part of Care Home Open Day on Friday, June 19, Millfield care home in Huddersfield Road will be inviting members of the local community, particularly men, to its recruitment drive from 11am to 4pm.
Research carried out by Anchor, which runs Millfield, highlighted that England could face a shortfall of 718,000 care workers by 2025, and an unprecedented number of men are needed to bridge the gap.
Millfield manager Sharon Croucher said: “The care sector needs to attract a wider range of staff — young and old — and we need more men to consider care as a potential career particularly as men are living longer and male carers are likely to share their interests.
“Men bring a different perspective to care and we want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our residents.”
She added that Anchor is creating more than 2,100 new positions this year and offes extensive training and promotion prospects to encourage people to join the workforce.
Anchor also pays living wage salaries to care staff and activity co-ordinators in Manchester who are qualified at NVQ Level 2.
Sharon continued: “Applicants don’t need to have worked in the care sector before but we are looking for candidates who are passionate about providing top quality care and who have an empathy with older people. This is an opportunity for a career where you can do well by doing good.”
Care home workers and recruitment staff at Millfield, which recently scored highly on the Your Care Rating Survey, will be on hand at the event to offer advice to job hunters and explain why they enjoy working with older people.
Visitors will also be able to join the residents in their daily activities, which will include still-life painting, a ballet performance, a concert by the residents’ choir and a Poetry Corner.
Slots to talk to care staff and Anchor’s recruitment team are limited so to book a place contact the recruitment team on 0845 604 6635 or jobs@anchor.org.uk.
