SADDLEWORTH ARTS FESTIVAL

BUDDING musicians took part in a masterclass hosted by world famous violinist Tasmin Little OBE.

Tasmin, who is best known as a concerto soloist and has released several albums, visited Oldham Lyceum as part of Saddleworth Arts Festival.

Young violinists from the Greater Manchester Youth String Orchestra were able to watch Tasmin play and get tips from the Classical Brit Award winner.

In 1982, Tasmin was a finalist in the string section of BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Her first professional performance as a soloist was in 1988 with The Halle Orchestra. She made her first appearance at the BBC Proms in two years later and has appeared regularly since.

Over the course of her career Tasmin has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic. Tasmin received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bradford in 1996 and the university’s music school is named after her.

In 2009 she received a British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors Gold Badge Award and she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to music.

The event was financially supported by the Arts Council of Great Britain.
