ASPIRATION fund . . . Tony Lloyd has launched a £600,000 Youth Aspiration Fund
A THEATRE production exploring anti-social behaviour, bullying and grooming is one of four projects in Oldham to win a £57,000 share of a £600,000 fund to empower young people.
Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd’s Youth Aspiration Fund is aimed at helping young people to make the right choices. The borough’s share will be split between Oldham Coliseum, OAK Community Development, Mahdlo and the DePaul Trust.
Oldham Coliseum has been awarded £2,200 to work in schools across Oldham and Tameside, delivering performances based on real-life stories to encourage pupils to understand issues affecting them and their peers. The £20,000 received by Mahdlo will provide a dedicated youth worker for 25 young people.
OAK Community Development will use its £15,000 to launch the Raising Achievement project, providing support for children and young children underachieving at school, and the DePaul Trust’s £20,000 will allow it to work with young people aged 16-23 at risk of child sexual exploitation.
Mr Lloyd said: “I launched the fund to give young people the opportunity to develop their confidence, team-building and to respect themselves and their communities — essential skills for making the best start in life. I’ve been really impressed by the quality of the bids.”
A total of 36 projects across Greater Manchester won a share of a fund
