SWAPPING Oldham for the Orient ... Natalie Dearden
BLUE Coat School pupil Natalie Dearden is one of only five teenagers in the country to win a place to study in Hong Kong this summer.
The 18 year old flies out for the two-week summer school at the City University of Hong Kong next month after sitting her photography, media studies and psychology A-levels.
Students had to produce a piece of work outlining why the city is such a great place to study, and Natalie’s brochure and poster impressed the judges from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.
“I didn’t think I was ever going to win,” said Natalie, whose flights, tuition fees and accommodation will be paid for by the organisers.
“When I received the email I was so shocked I thought it was fake. I had to get my mum to read it!”
It will be her first time away from home alone for Bardsley girl Natalie, who has been offered a place to study graphic design at Leeds University in September.
As well as work in Hong Kong there will be plenty of sightseeing: “I am most looking forward to experiencing the culture. One of the things I can’t wait to see is the large Buddha on the island on Lantau.”
