A WOMAN tried to dodge paying her taxi fare then attempted to rob the driver at knifepoint.

Sarah Marson (23) has been jailed for 42 months after pleading guilty to the attemped robbery.

She asked the cabbie to take her to an address on Longfellow Crescent, Oldham, where she told him to wait outside while she got cash to pay him. After a few minutes he realised she wasn’t coming back and got out to note the house number.

Manchester Crown Court heard Marson reappeared, followed him to his cab and threatened him with a kitchen knife as she demanded his takings.

The Asian driver was later taken to hospital with bruises and cut fingers. He had also been racially abused and Marson had alleged he offered to waive the £7 fare for sex.

Marson, who suffers from mental health problems, was later abusive and aggressive towards police officers.

Judge Bernard Lever told her: “You were undoubtedly aggressive and abusive, and said some terrible things about Asians to the police. You need help.”

Caroline Patrick, defending, said her client was now horrified at what she had done. At the time she had been depressed after taking cocktail of drink and drugs.
