WHAT to paint on the roof? Whatever it says, they’ll need a lot of paint
COUNCIL Leader Jim McMahon has asked Oldhamers what they think should be written on the huge roof of the new Oldham sports centre when it opens later this year.

Councillor McMahon has suggested “Oldham: Dare To Be Wise”, both insirational and a nod to the borough’s owl symbol.
Others have proposed “Home of the Tubular Bandage” – alluding to Seton Healthcare, founded in 1952 by Ivor Stoller, inventor of the tubular bandage.
Other suggestions included a 3G football pitch, a rooftop garden and a space for wind turbines and water tanks.
The most unlikely suggestion came from Steve Laithwaite, who said he would like to see the new Saddleworth School built on the sports centre roof to save greenbelt land in Diggle...
