LOBSTERS, disco kings and even superheroes took part in this year’s unofficial Saddleworth Beer Walk.
Now in its fourth year, around 200 people set off on Saturday’s 11-mile tour of village pubs, starting from Greenfield’s Wellington Inn at 1pm.
Organised by “lobsters” Justin Brown and his sister Angie, the colourful event aimed to raise money for charities - this year Saddleworth Round Table, which ran the official beer walk until problems got in the way.
Justin (46), a joiner from Delph, said: “It was a brilliant day, I can’t believe how many people turned up. We visited 14 pubs and there was no trouble; everyone was just up for a cracking time.
“We’ve raised around £270 for the Saddleworth Round Table, who do a lot of great things in the area, but I think some of the other walkers were raising money for different charities.”
He plans to carry on next year and build on the weekend’s success: “Each year more and more people are taking part. My only worry is that it gets too big - which is why we try not to let too many people know about it in advance,” he said.
