A YOUNG Failsworth football fan has received a signed Preston shirt from striker Jermaine Beckford.
Ted Dockray (8) was presented with the jersey by the hat-trick hero after the disappointment of having the shirt snatched from his hands after it was thrown into the crowd at the League One play-offs. A video showing a woman apparently snatching the shirt from Ted went viral.
The club ensured the youngster got his hands on the striker’s spare Wembley shirt and got the chance to meet the footballer on Friday.
Beckford said: “Once I’d seen and heard what had happened, it was a no-brainer for me. It means an awful lot, not just to Ted and the other youngsters, but to me as well. I thought it would be a really fitting end to a really memorable day for him.”
Ted was also given a Preston scarf, a signed programme and the chance to tour Deepdale with his grandfather, George.
Ted said: “It’s good, I’m excited. It’s the best way to spend half-term. He is a really skillful player and I’m going to put his shirt in a frame on the wall.”
