Child rape victim fears justice won’t be done

A WOMAN who told police she was raped as a 12 year old fears she relived the horrific event for nothing.
Her attacker, who was already in prison, may not serve any extra time for the offence despite admitting to it. Sex beast Paul Waites (42), a former teacher, deliberately targeted the Oldham child and groomed her for sex over six-months in 2006.
Waites had persuaded her to meet him on a Oldam supermarket car park, the first of three meetings, after contacting her on a social networking site.
On the first occasion nothing happened, but on the second he touched her sexually, and on the third got her to touch him sexually then perform a sex act which made her physically ill.
The sickening events led the victim to turn to drink, self-harm, and even try to take her own life. She finally reported the incidents in June 2012.
In April this year Manchester Crown Court heard that while he committed the offences against her, Waites had also been targeting other under-age girls. He received a nine-year prison sentence in 2009 after pleading guilty to 26 offences including possessing, making and distributing indecent images.
He was released after three years for good behaviour but eight months later was arrested again as the new offences came to light.
Waites, of Broad Lane, Bramley, Leeds initially denied the accusations but later pleaded guilty. He was jailed for 11 years for rape and other sexual offences concurrent to the original sentence, meaning he is unlikely to serve any additional time.
A spokesman for the family said: “She’s absolutely devastated, she’s heartbroken. She feels as though she has relived what happened to her for no reason. Victims should be treated better than this. It’s appalling.
“The fact that someone who is clearly dangerous seems to be let off so lightly is shocking. This needs to stop happening to innocent victims.”
