Sweet success for Daniel on stage

A SHAW schoolboy certainly won a golden ticket when he landed a candy-covered role in the West End.
Daniel Rhodes has just spent the last year playing Mike Teavee in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at the Theatre Royal, in Drury Lane.
Daniel (11), who is already well known to Chronicle readers as a marvellous magician, performed in four shows a week as the TV and toy pistol obsessed American kid who finds the fourth ticket in Roald Dahl’s children’s book.
It meant Daniel, who is a student at Hollingworth Academy, had to live in London with a chaperone for two weeks at a time before getting to spend every third week off.
His mum Lisa, who has watched the show an incredible 15 times, said it has been an exciting journey for them all.
“It has been an amazing experience for me and Daniel, he’s absolutely loved it,” she said.
“He’s enjoyed it so much but he’s looking forward to being a normal kid for a bit and concentrating on his magic again which is his real love.”
Daniel, who has also appeared in a Morrisons supermarket TV advert, wowed Latics bosses a couple of years ago with his magical illusions when he performed tricks for players, directors and fans.
