Empty pub has become a right tip

Rubbish piles up outside the former Fytton Arms in Fitton Hill.
RESIDENTS in Fitton Hill are furious at the eyesore of litter that has gathered around the derelict Fytton Arms pub.
The Fytton Arms, on Green Estate, has been empty for a number of years and is proving a magnet for fly-tippers who have even dumped an old settee.
Neighbour Dennis Kirkham said: “The pub is in the heart of the community, right next to the post office.
“There’s so much rubbish, you name it, it’s there.
“What we really wanted was for it to be cleaned up by Christmas but I think that is too much to hope for now.”
The empty property has been subject to a number of fires over the years it has been left empty.
The worst blaze was in March, last year, when an arsonist broke in and set fire to the interior, destroying a quarter of the ground floor in the process.
A spokesman for Oldham Council said: “We are currently working with the owner to address the issue of the rubbish and we are looking to resolve it in the New Year.
“Because the property is private we cannot remove the rubbish ourselves but it is an ongoing issue with the owner.”
