A FATHER OF FOUR who had only just come out of prison is back behind bars after ramming two police cars during a chase through Oldham.

In October Craig Jones (39) sped through the streets at up to 60mph in a borrowed Nissan Micra. He was seen by a patrol car which cornered him in an alleyway near Greengate Street.

Manchester Crown Court was told that Jones, who had a passenger, deliberately reversed into one police car, which was shunted backwards into a second, causing £2,000 worth of damage.

Jones, of Briscoe Street, Oldham Edge, at first claimed his passenger had been at the wheel during the pursuit and forced him to switch places. He later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance. He also pleaded guilty to theft and attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to an earlier incident in June when he was caught by security guards at Chadderton’s Asda trying to steal four bottles of spirits.

He gave police his brother’s name and details, which led to his brother’s arrest and two hours in a police cell.

Welder Jones had 34 convictions for 120 offences dating back to when he was 13. He was also banned from driving for two years.
