MANCHESTER City legend Mike Summerbee was on hand to open Failsworth School’s state-of-the-art sports complex yesterday.
Guests were also treated with two other special guests, the Premier League and Capital One Cup trophies.
Head teacher John Meagher hopes the floodlit facility — funded by the Football Foundation, Manchester County FA, Oldham Council and Failsworth Learning Partnership — will encourage greater sporting participation and forge stronger community ties.
He said: “This is fantastic for the children and the school and will help young people in the area to enjoy and succeed in sport.
“We really want this complex to be a huge part of the community which can be used to benefit everybody in the local area.”
The new facilities will be open every evening and at weekends for clubs, groups, leagues and organisations to hire for training and matches.
Summerbee was also joined by fellow ex-City favourite Tony Book who helped him to cut the ribbon.
Summerbee said: “Having seen how good this is, myself and Tony Book are considering going back into training!”
