New site chosen for autism school

New Bridge School — the former Kaskenmoor School was in the now-vaacant foreground space
OLDHAM’S new £6.25 million school for children with autism will be built at Hollinwood, not Oldham town centre.
New Bridge Special School will sponsor the school, which will cater for 140 children aged 4-19.
The original proposal for construction on council-owned land in Rock Street has been superceded by a plan for the site of the former Kaskenmoor School in Roman Road - next to New Bridge.
The new location is flat with better access and will offer “significant educational advantages” since it will be able to share New Bridge’s facilities.
Contractors are currently bidding to build the school, which will open in September 2015
