IN the zone . . . some of the Mahdlo team get celebrations into full swing
A PENALTY shoot-out kicked-off second birthday celebrations at Oldham’s £5 million Mahdlo youth zone.
Families and guests took part in an afternoon of activities and games — and tucked into birthday cake — at the Egerton Street centre yesterday.
The penalty competition was supported by Barclays bank to raise money for sports kits.
Julie Harrington, development Manager at Mahdlo, said: “It was a fantastic way to celebrate our second birthday, having the whole community behind us.
“We are well on our way to raising enough money to buy our first sports kits.”
Celebrations continue tonight for 13 to 21-year-olds from 6.30 to 10pm. There is also a junior party for eight to 12-year-olds from 6.30 to 9pm tomorrow. Entry to both is 50p.
PARALYMPIC silver medal swimmer Claire Cashmore will visit Mahdlo on the final day of a four-day festival, starting tomorrow, which gives young people with disabilities the chance to try sports they can’t do at school.
Claire (25), of Leeds, competed at her third Paralympic Games at London 2012, where she won two silvers and a bronze.
The roadshow visits Hathershaw College of Technology and Sport tomorrow, The Radclyffe School, Chadderton, on Wednesday, Oldham Academy North on Thursday and Mahdlo Youth Zone on Friday.
