OLDHAM Rugby League Club is celebrating its latest signing - Oldham College.
The club is to provide professional training for students at the college’s rugby academy.
The academy was set up last year and started recruiting students for courses that will begin this September. Starting at 16, talented players will combine training with a range of sports courses or work.
John Pietrzak, the college’s head of sport, said: “Working with the club we can offer excellence in coaching and work experience and offer outstanding education across several levels.
“The partnership provides access to the daily running of a professional club, and therefore insight into many different employment opportunities.”
The academy is holding a trial for potential students at Whitebank Stadium, Whitebank Road, Limeside, at 9.30am to 11.20am on Saturday, March 1. Further dates will also be announced.
Chris Hamilton, chairman of Oldham Rugby League Club, added: “We’re really excited about working with Oldham College. We have a good track record for developing young players; this is another progression in providing opportunities for players to be involved in a professional set up.”
To register for the trial or to find out more visit www.oldham.ac.uk or contact Peter Scrivens on 0161-785 5445 or peter.scrivens@oldham.ac.uk.
