“X FACTOR” hopefuls Tenors of Rock flew in from Norway to rock Delph’s Party in the Park.

The six singers, who got through to boot camp on last night’s show, performed in front of around 1,500 people at the eighth annual family event at Delph and Dobcross Cricket Club on Saturday.

Singer Jaymz Denning was tight-lipped about how the group gets on in the ITV1 talent show — but their blend of classical singers performing rock classics was a hit in Delph.

“We have just come in from a show in Norway last night. We got off the plane at Heathrow and drove straight up.

“It’s been great performing here — and I’m so glad it didn’t rain!” said Jaymz.

The gates opened early afternoon and families who had brought their own food and drink picked a spot to set up their chairs and picnic tables. Others hired one of the executive tents for the day.

First on the stage was local duo Spark, followed by the Beatles tribute band The Threetles and then Tenors of Rock.

The Fantastics got everyone dancing with a set of popular soul and Motown classics.

Member Patrick Nichols said: “It is a fantastic event. It is great for the community and you have got different genres of music.

“The crowd are excellent and we will definitely come back again.”

Headline act Kaiser Monkey Killers had the crowd bouncing around as they belted out indie rock classics and the event finished with the traditional Proms finale by Delph Band. They were accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display as people waved flags and sang “Land of Hope and Glory”.

Party in the Park is organised by Wake Up Delph to raise money for the village’s Christmas lights switch on.

Phil Beckwith from the three-strong group said: “It has gone fantastically. The weather has been kind and we got a fantastic crowd.

“We have got a hard-working team of local people and without them we couldn’t put this on. They are the backbone.”
