Clash over burn to toddler’s foot

A CONCERNED mum was left furious after her 11-month-old baby burned her foot on exposed heating pipes at her home.

But First Choice Homes Oldham says while it sympathises with the family over the injury, it isn’t responsible.

Georgina Rowe moved into Roundthorn Road eight years ago and lives there with daughter Lily Mae, who has just started crawling, and husband Phil.

She was horrified when the tot caught herself on the piping, which runs under a radiator in the living room. Her foot instantly blistered.

Mrs Rowe said: “She only touched it for a fraction of a second. I phoned First Choice Homes who said they would get someone out to sort it. No one came, and it was only the day after that they told me covering up pipes is not something they do.

“All the rest of the copper piping in the house is covered up, so why can’t they do this bit? I don’t own the house, so why should it be my responsibility?”

A workman from FCHO told her she would have to do the job at her own expense.

An FCHO spokesman said: “There are obviously many dangers in any home for young children. FCHO is responsible for ensuring the fixtures and fittings are operating correctly and in good repair. The radiator pipes in Georgina Rowe’s property are in good working order.

“FCHO is not responsible for the safety of children or adults in the home with regard to radiators, cookers, fires, and filled baths.”
