Small-room Blitz

A DETERMINED rapper who started out writing tracks in his bedroom has taken the UK Asian charts by storm with his new single “Girl Like That”.

Coppice’s Bilal Ahmed — better known as Blitz-i — is currently penning his debut album “Breakout”, set to be released later this year.

The 29-year-old, who went to school in Hollinwood before moving on to Oldham Sixth Form College, is now enjoying success as a musician, having decided the engineering trade wasn’t for him.

He has teamed up with fellow Oldhamer Kami Kane for his new upbeat dance single which mixes English and Punjabi vocals. It is currently at No 6 in the chart.

Some 800,000 viewers watched Blitz-i’s first single, “Oh Meri Nina”, on YouTube.

Now the singer is hoping for a similar response — both nationally and internationally — to his new offerings.

Word initially spread on social networking sites alone.

Bilal said: “It is quite cool to think people can buy the single on iTunes or Amazon.

“The little kids come up to us in Oldham and it’s really nice they want to talk.

“We never envisaged that so many people would like our music — we were shocked — but it’s brilliant.”
