Asa Newsome is heading for the heights with a mountain climb followed by charity work with orphans in Kenya
CARING Asa Newsome is determined to make a difference — and gather as many life experiences as possible.
That is why the 19-year-old from Delph is about to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, Africa, then round off his trip by volunteering at a children’s day-care centre in Kenya.
Asa, a former Saddleworth School pupil who works at The Old Bell, in Delph, and the Lime Kiln Cafe, in Dobcross, is helping to fund his epic trip with his own earnings while raising money for the Christian charity the NASIO Trust.
Having already climbed Annapurna in Nepal, Asa is busy training for the adventure and is due to head out to Tanzania on February 6.
“I was looking round for a charity to support. I wanted to help a small charity rather than one that gets millions every year. I’m the only person doing this for NASIO. It’s a really worthwhile cause and I’m looking forward to volunteering for them,” said Asa.
