PLANS for a multi-million pound development in Royton town centre will go ahead — even if a supermarket giant backs out.
Developers Dransfield and Oldham Council have revealed plans for a food store-led project with the store believed to be Morrison’s.
But there are fears the UK’s fourth largest grocery chain is scaling back on new stores as it gears up for an Internet shopping launch.
The supermarket says the Royton scheme is not part of its store programme.
A spokeswoman for Dransfield added: “We are still in discussions with all the retailers for the development. We hope to submit our plans to Oldham Council this side of Christmas. We are fully committed to the scheme.”
