PUPILS and staff at schools across Oldham have been treated to a taste of what’s to come at the new Mahdlo youth centre.
The visits by the people behind the exciting project was part of Mad for Mahdlo week to promote the new venture.
It involved road shows giving pupils the opportunity to take part in a selection of taster activities which reflect what will be on offer when the £5m centre opens on March 19.
Activities on offer included music and DJ experiences, penalty shoot outs, arts and the promotion of the forthcoming young people’s launch party on March 17.
Mahdlo’s very own resident DJ Marya Afsar, an inclusion worker at Mahdlo, cranked up the volume and demonstrated the DJ sessions that will be on offer at the world-class youth facility.
She said: “We are looking forward to the opening and are busy planning the young people’s launch party on March 17. Mahdlo is a fantastic opportunity for Oldham and young people really deserve the very best, we are all working hard to make sure that happens.”
Other activities for pupils who were urged to wear yellow to mark the taste sessions, included photography and creative media and a project called Mahdlo and Me, which aims to enable young people to have a greater understanding of their own identity and how this relates to others.
Ste Hardy, senior club youth worker, said: “Mahdlo and Me has been very popular with young people. Using the music that has been produced through the project we have developed a performance that reflects Oldham’s diverse communities. We are really excited about demonstrating this at the launch party.
“The events proved to be a great way of meeting more young people in Oldham and showing them how much fun Mahdlo is going to be. The road shows will help us get the Mahdlo message across to young people.”
Based on Egerton Street, membership of Mahdlo will cost £5 per year with entrance being 50p per session.
