CHADDERTON town hall’s historic architecture and the sumptuous grandeur of its interior are proving to be a marriage made in heaven.

The Middleton Road landmark is now one of the borough’s most popular places to say “I do”.

More than 1,100 couples have chosen the building — set to celebrate it’s 100th birthday next March — as the stunning backdrop to their big day since the register office re-located there from Hobson Street in 2007.

The marriage room’s striking features include a magnificent stained-glass window, chandelier and marble pillars.

And it can now also cater for the rest of the big day after recently opening up its ballroom, boasting the largest dance floor of any of the borough’s approved wedding venues.

Councillor Dave Hibbert, cabinet member for housing, transport and regeneration, said: “Despite the recession, we’ve actually seen an increase in the number of marriages every year since 2009 in our borough, so tying the knot clearly isn’t going out fashion here.”

The town hall is also popular for civil ceremonies, baby-naming and wedding vow renewals.

Other services available include registering births, marriages and deaths, and checking applications for British nationality and settlement in the UK. And a growing number of people are turning to the town hall to help them trace family histories through local records and archives.
