Logo for hospital’s £200,000 appeal unveiled

THE winning name and logo for the new fund-raising appeal for Oldham’s £44 million women and children’s centre has been unveiled.

Oldham Athletic’s new signing Reuben Reid and an Oldham student revealed the striking design at Latics game against Hartlepool on Tuesday night. Competition winner Tamanna Begum (15), from The Oldham Academy North, won tickets for the game and VIP treatment for the evening after coming up with the design concept for the In Your Hands Appeal — and sat back to enjoy watching Latics win 4-0.

The Pennine Acute Trust, which runs the Royal Oldham Hospital, launched a competition in November for hospital staff and residents to come up with a name and logo for the new appeal, which is looking to raise £200,000 for the development. The colourful design will appear on all literature and publicity material.

Jan Bolton, fund-raising manager at The Pennine Acute Trust’s Charity, said: “We received some fantastic entries and the standard was very high, from not only staff but patients and the public. It is important that we have an eye-catching logo so that the public can instantly recognise the appeal. Tamanna’s design captured everything we were looking for in a logo; it is instantly recognisable and has a really fun, vibrant feel to it.

“This will be a fantastic appeal and one we hope will be supported by local individuals and groups over the next two years.

“All we need now is for local people to start donating and raising money for women and children. It’s in your hands!”

Latics publications manager Gordon Lawton said: “Oldham Athletic is delighted to be able to support it in any way that they can.”

The appeal will be officially launched next Tuesday at The Royal Oldham, where the centre, due to be completed in December 2012, is being built.

Funds raised from the appeal will buy a variety of medical equipment for sick children and babies and help furnish the new facility for pregnant women and parents.
